HOPE at APHA

At the 2024 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting, the HOPE team presented a poster drawing on qualitative interviews with birthing patients, doulas, and healthcare providers. We study found that community-based doula care fosters culturally sensitive relationships, supports navigation and language needs, and strengthens patients’ confidence to communicate with clinicians. Findings presented at APHA highlighted the essential role of doulas in enhancing patient trust and improving concordant, equity-centered maternity care for historically marginalized communities.
